GERMAN BUSINESS MATTERS

German companies employ more than 692,000 people across the entire U.S. with over 40 percent of jobs in the manufacturing sector. Direct investment from Germany amounts to $406 billion.

Germany ranks fourth among foreign direct investors. According to the German Bundesbank, there are more than 5,300 companies with German equity investments in the USA.

The Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) has updated these numbers and other figures on the performance of German companies in the United States on its website www.germanbusinessmatters.com. For each federal state, it is possible to see how many jobs German subsidiaries create, how high exports and imports between the respective US state and Germany are and what type of goods are primarily traded.

The update was part of a panel discussion at RGIT on the question: How to keep businesses globally competitive? - Perspectives by the transatlantic business community. The participants agreed that the potential of transatlantic cooperation should be used to solve global challenges. Speakers and panelists of the event, moderated Daniel Andrich, President and CEO of RGIT, were Boris Ruge, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the German Embassy in Washington, Dr. Martin Wansleben, CEO of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), Peter Riehle, President and CEO of Wittenstein North America and Josh Kallmer, Executive Vice President of Policy, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).
