Dear Reader,

As President and CEO of the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) and Program Ambassador for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the United States, I am pleased to bring to your attention the   German Chancellor Fellowship for Prospective Leaders. As an ambassador of this prestigious program, I am reaching out to the business community for help in identifying candidates for this opportunity.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation German Chancellor Fellowship Program grants up to 50 fellowships annually to accomplished young professionals from the United States, Russia, China, Brazil, and India. Through funding from the German Federal Foreign Office and oversight of the office of the German Chancellor, fellows are invited for one year to Germany to work in guest institutions and implement independent research projects in their field of expertise. Up to 10 candidates and prospective leaders are chosen from the United States. These candidates should have obtained a bachelor’s degree no more than 12 years prior to the beginning of the fellowship, and since proven their leadership skills in a professional setting. The fellows receive a generous monthly stipend and a research and travel allowance in addition to other benefits. Please find specific details in the attached program information sheet.

While fellows come from many different professional fields, the German Chancellor Fellowship is a unique career-development opportunity for candidates from the business world. By spending 11 months in an institution of their choice in Germany conducting research projects relevant to their career, these young professionals return to their employer with an in-depth knowledge of the structure of German companies and institutions. To give an example, fellows in the past have grounded their research projects in a comparison of business models and best practices between German companies and companies in their home country. Furthermore, fellows return to the United States with a life-long network of peers spanning the globe.

We hope that you will spread the word about this opportunity to high-potential candidates in your organization as a valuable stepping stone in their career and professional development. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.
