Freya Lemcke, Vice President of RGIT, led a workshop on the German apprenticeship model at an event hosted by the Goethe Institut Washington on Friday, May 5, 2017. The workshop was part of an all-day networking and information fair for students and teachers of German at the high school and university levels. In her presentation, Freya compared the current German and American approaches to higher education. In addition, she offered detailed information about an alternative career path available to students that is modeled on the already successful German apprenticeship system. This included highlighting examples of specific apprenticeship programs that have been implemented in the United States.
Later on during the event, Caitlin Hickey, RGIT’s Director of Government Relations and Legal Affairs, joined a panel discussion to encourage students to continue with their German studies. Caitlin shared how learning German and living in Germany positively affected her professional development.
